Breast Cancer – A new AI-powered test, IICM+, may enhance recurrence risk prediction in hormone receptor-positive (HR+), HER2-negative (HER2-) breast cancer. Developed and independently validated in over 4,400 participants from the landmark TAILORx trial, IICM+ outperformed the widely used 21-gene Recurrence Score test. However, further validation is needed. This research, published following an oral presentation in December 2025, broadens the impact of this groundbreaking trial. Breast Cancer – CompassHER2-pCR (EA1181) is a single-arm trial that is testing a reduced chemotherapy approach for patients with early-stage HER2-positive (HER2+) breast cancer. Follow-up is ongoing to assess the primary endpoint of 3-year recurrence-free survival. Meanwhile, clinicians are increasingly considering such approaches in practice, making it clinically relevant to identify which patients are most likely to respond. This analysis examines the trial's secondary endpoints of pCR rates and predictors of response. Breast Cancer – An exploratory analysis from the phase 3 EA1131 trial examines disparities in outcomes among patients with triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) who had residual disease after neoadjuvant chemotherapy. EA1131 previously showed that platinum chemotherapy was no better than standard capecitabine in this setting. The new analysis is hypothesis-generating. Cancer Care Delivery Research – Continued smoking after a cancer diagnosis can adversely affect treatment and outcomes. An analysis of 756 patients enrolled in nine ECOG-ACRIN trials found that most patients who smoked cigarettes in the year before their cancer diagnosis continued smoking after diagnosis, including during and after treatment. The findings highlight the need for integrated, ongoing smoking cessation support as part of cancer care.
